Research Update (February 1, 2021)

Research Update (February 1, 2021)

Diligence Technologies Inc., West Tennessee

EVENTS FROM THE PAST MONTH:

Our interaction with the outside world has been mostly of the “virtual” variety.  We were involved with the SWSS and NAICC meetings via the internet and have a few more such encounters on tap for February (TAPA, West TN Grain Conference, etc.).  Not the same as being there, but we are making the best of the situation.

CROPPING SEASONS:

The fields were quiet in January with only a few winter wheat trials still active.  However, if the weather will cooperate we should be fertilizing and doing maintenance on the wheat later this month and preparing to lay out new wheat trials for the spring.  Let us know if you are looking for wheat trials this spring (foliar fungicide, herbicide, etc.).  We should have some extra wheat available.

GREENHOUSE ACTIVITIES:

The greenhouse continues to occupy our time this winter.  We have the normal selection of herbicide trials as well as insecticide and fertility trials underway.  We are covering a wide range of row crops in addition to turf and vegetable trials.  We still have a little time if you need to generate some data this winter.  Give us a call and we will work it out.

WEATHER INFO:

The temperatures in January were pretty much in line with the averages for west Tennessee this time of year.  It has been seasonally cold, but nothing really extraordinary.  A little bit of “normal” is not the worst thing I can think of right now.

PEST INFO:

Winter annual populations continue to build, so I would anticipate that we will have the opportunity for some good burndown trials this spring.  We already have a few lined up, but let us know if you need burndown work.  We should have room for more.

We hope you are enjoying this relatively quiet season in the ag world.  As we are all aware, things will get busy in a hurry as the days get longer and temperatures begin to increase.  Please keep us in mind as you begin to prepare for the season ahead.

He becometh poor that dealeth with a slack hand, but the hand of the diligent maketh rich.
