Research Update (April 6, 2020)

Research Update (April 6, 2020)

Diligence Technologies Inc., West Tennessee

While the world may be on hold due to virus concerns, our biggest limiting factor so far this season has been the rain (at least until we have to restock on gloves and respirators).  However, we are spraying burndown trials and preparing for the coming season at every opportunity.  Our corn planting will be in full swing soon and we look forward to spending more time back out in the fields.

EVENTS FROM THE PAST MONTH:

We managed to attend the WSSA meeting just prior to the wave of meeting cancelations and had a great time.  With pretty much anything else that even resembles a meeting being cancelled for this spring, I am going to say that meeting season is done and cropping season is here.  If we happened to have missed you during our winter travels, please give us a call and let us know how we might be able to help out in the coming months.

CROPPING SEASONS:

We started spraying burndown trials in March with a few more yet to be sprayed.  We have good winter annual weed pressure and would be happy to slide in a few more trials.  Just make sure you let us know before we get everything cleaned up for crop trials this summer.
Corn planting will begin soon (weather permitting).  We normally target the second week of April to begin planting research trials.  This usually puts us late enough in the spring to avoid the late freeze we get on occasion.  Later in April, we will be looking to establish corn weed control trials and get ready for cotton planting in early May.

GREENHOUSE ACTIVITIES:

The greenhouse is still busy as we finish off several trials and look to complete our final round of greenhouse projects for this season.  As usual, we have worked with a variety of field crops, vegetables, and pests.  It is interesting work and keeps us out of trouble through the winter.  But I think I speak for the entire crew when I say it will be good to get back outside.

WEATHER INFO:

A wet March means the we (along with everyone else in the area) will be in a rush to get fields cleaned up prior to planting.  The weeds will be big and time will be short.  Such are the challenges of working in agriculture.

PEST INFO:

As I mentioned before, we have good winter annual weed populations if you need a burndown trial.  Just let us know soon before we clean them all up in preparation for planting.  Aphids have been active this winter (just ask the guys that were given the task of keeping them out of the greenhouse).  Otherwise, things will probably be pretty quiet until we can get some crops out the ground.  Stay tuned.

We at Diligence Technologies are blessed that you have chosen to work with us over the years and look forward to another great year.  Let us know how we can serve you in the season to come and stay healthy.
