Research Update – May 5, 2025

Events from the Past Month
Our winter meetings wrapped up in March, and April brought a shift toward field and greenhouse activity. We're squeezing in one final spring meeting — look for us at the CPDA Conference in Cape Coral, Florida. That will likely be our last out-of-state trip until fall.

Cropping Seasons
Corn planting began the week of April 14 and continues in some areas. A heavy 14-inch rainfall in early April put us behind schedule, followed by intermittent showers that have slowed progress even further.
We're now finishing up our yielded corn trials and transitioning to cotton. Alongside cotton planting, we’ve started early weed control trials as time allows. We expect to stay busy over the next couple of months getting everything established for the season.
Greenhouse Activities
We typically finish greenhouse trials by late April, but this year we have several late-season trials that will keep us active in the greenhouse sporadically into early summer. We're thankful for the continued work — though we know it’s going to get warm in there soon!
Trial Availability Reminder
We usually have additional land available for trials that develop later in the season. If you have new work to slot in, feel free to reach out — we’re happy to accommodate where possible.
Corn Fall Armyworm Trials
We typically plant our fall armyworm trials in July — late enough to allow strong insect pressure on young corn without taking it to yield. This timing offers an excellent opportunity to evaluate product performance.

Weather Update
The highlight so far this season was the 14 inches of rain we received in early April. Since then, we’ve been working around spring showers, slowly making progress. There's still a long way to go to get everything in the ground.
Pest Update
Winter annuals have mostly run their course or been treated by now. They’re quickly being replaced by summer annual weeds like pigweed and grasses. Nothing major to report yet on insect or disease activity — but that likely won’t last long.
Thank You
We’re grateful to be part of your research program. Please reach out if we can help with any upcoming trials or fieldwork. We’re here to support your success.
